Exploring the frontiers of Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry at TU Wien.
Our group combines synthetic methodology with biological application to solve complex problems in molecular sciences.
Our research in this area focuses on developing biomimetic strategies to access bioactive, rearranged terpenoids. We mimic nature's biosynthetic logic to efficiently transform abundant natural precursors into diverse libraries of high-value molecular scaffolds. This divergent, semi-synthetic platform serves as a powerful engine for uncovering new chemical entities and accelerating drug discovery.
In collaboration with Solgate GmbH, we are designing fragment-based photoaffinity probes. We develop novel methods to synthesize small molecules containing photoactive functional groups (diazirines), employing high-throughput synthesis to create libraries for biological evaluation.
Dr. Nicolas Kratena is currently a Principal Investigator at TU Wien, leading research projects in bio-inspired synthesis and medicinal chemistry. With a strong foundation in organic synthesis from his education at TU Wien and postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, his group tackles challenges at the interface of chemistry and biology.
Meet the team driving our research forward.
